Here is a weird little story:
we're in Guildford at the minute, at the 'lodge as usual. last night when we got back after the gig I decided to go outside for a short period of time. off down the stairs I went, and out the front door. There was a couple of lads already out there, taking in the air, and we got talking. They were from manchester and were doing a job of vehicle laminating down here (you know, where you stick the designs/adverts on taxis etc) and they were wonderin' "where the ladies at?!" they said. One of them (Matt?) was drinking some form of bright blue booze (wkd?) from a wine glass, and the other one (Elliott) wanted to show me something funny on his phone. While he was showing me a video of an african child dancing with some bad techno dubbed over the top of it ("It's not real, that"), the older woman who had recently arrived (and until now had been keeping her distance) moved over to see what we were looking at. Obviously, she needn't have bothered, but it got her in the conversation. Her name was Karri (sp?) and she was norwegian. So now what we've got on our hands is a full-on outside-the-lodge international party.
oh shiz gotta go to yeovil, to be continued...
in yeovil
so what we found out from Karri the norwegian lady is that she was back to graduate for the college course she did in guildford. her degree is in norwgian/english translation. she lives in oslo. it's alright there. she likes rock and metal music, with some electronica. but not techno. i think she was maybe in her mid to late 30's. she was intelligent, which the lads picked up on almost right away. she speaks german and french also.
so, asking her if she was scared, being out on her own, talking to 3 lads, the guys eventually let slip that they were "being well polite to her" and she said "oh my god, yes you are just being polite to me!!" This was a real turning point in the until-now jovial conversation.
I had long since finished my short period of time outside, but had decided to stick it out here for a bit, just to see what happened/look out for this woman. It was time to go.
I said my goodbyes and opened the door, went inside, and of course she followed me in making her excuses cos obviously, 3 gentleman strangers is bearable, 2 strangers is worse. We get in the lift, select our respective floors, and lad Elliot jumps in with us at the last minute. His mate elects to take the stairs. I get out on my allotted 2nd floor, and as I do lad 2 jumps in, fresh from the stairs. So now its just her with the two guys, in the lift, supposedly going to the 3rd floor, and she's off to the 4th.
It makes you wonder how the story ended... I mean, I just went off to my room, but if I'd been of quicker wit maybe I'd have pretended my room was on the 4th floor just to see it all went ok... but that's not what happened. I wonder what happened...
